I offered to help create two, two-minute videos to open and close the ballet. The videos will consist of interview clips and statistical data.

We shot 17 interviews of dancers and musicians, answering a variety of questions relating to their self-image, adjusting themselves to fit a certain description of beauty, and their own interpretation of what true beauty means to them.

I am in the middle of sorting interview footage, and have begun building motion graphics to display a series of statistics that will compliment the shows content.

Community colleges have always been open doors, meaning, anyone, no matter what, can apply and take classes. We don’t expect you as a student to change what you believe in, what you dress like, how you talk or who you are. We simply what you to become more of who you already are. This is unique. This is what our brand promise is all about.

This statement also resonates with our largest population, 18-24 year olds. Millenials. Gen Y’rs. They want to be recognized as individuals—because they are.

We had tremendous feedback and all involved felt honored to be a part of this internal project. This also helped us in the Marketing department get a feel for how these kinds of projects increase internal communications. We sent this in  our monthly internal HTML email newsletter and received over a 45% open rate and over 250 views of the video.

Working with Kathleen King, we developed an annual fund campaign highlighting, not the kids that benefit from the programs of UCM, but the volunteers themselves. Volunteers experience growth, leadership and build character through service learning projects.

One thing that consistently comes up when we ask students what they love about Kalamazoo Valley, is our faculty. They care, they listen they are there when students need them most. What we do to promote that, is let our faculty share what makes them so unique. It’s not that they are about themselves, but rather they are all about our students.

With their input, I was able to craft a honest script that reflected all of things they believe in.
